Young Patriots

Three Fourth Grade Wolfhounds were celebrated recently for the award-winning essays they submitted to the annual Daughters of the American Revolution Essay Contest. The theme was, “What does the American Flag Mean to Me?” Dr. Jane Amelon with the Princess Anne Chapter of the DAR, and a proud Wolfhound Grandparent, presented the award certificates during Chapel last Wednesday. Caroline L. wrote about liberty and freedom. In his essay, Joshua S. discussed how courage, sacrifice, brotherhood, and hardship are qualities represented in our American flag. Amelon R. focused on the symbolism of colors in our flag, and she was selected as the runner-up in the Virginia statewide contest.

In addition to the certificate, these students received a gift bag which included the book Johnny Tremain, about a young boy and his dedication to our country. Congratulations to our young patriots and to Fourth Grade Teacher, Mrs. Tenney, for her guidance and support of this writing contest.
