Pounds of Plastic

The final TREX collection tallies are in and Saint Patrick collected 472 pounds of plastic film! Led by Mrs. Consunji’s third grade class, Saint Patrick students, parents, and staff recycled all sorts of plastic over a six month period. Although the winning school, Southampton Academy in Cortland, VA, collected over 2900 pounds of plastic, Saint Patrick will be awarded a bird house for our efforts. Now we have a goal for next year!

The third graders enjoyed collecting, weighing, and managing this plastic project. We hope you all will continue to recycle plastic film, such as grocery bags, other packaging case overwrap, bread/ cereal/potato bags, dry cleaning bags, newspaper sleeves, and other forms of clean dry plastic film (no Saran Wrap). By reducing, re-using, and recycling plastic bags, we can ALL help reduce litter, prevent pollution, and save our natural resources. Local stores that collect bags include Harris Teeter, Farm Fresh, Food Lion, and Target. Please keep up this great work.  A big thank you Mrs. Consunji’s third grade class!
