Wolfhound Recognitions

Jonathan Lee, Fourth Grade, received the Leonard Barks, Sr. Scholarship Award this past Saturday at the Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer Breakfast, an annual event put on by the Knights of Peter Claver Council 273 and the Basilica of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception. The prize is awarded at a minimum of $1000 for one year to a student receiving a Catholic Education. Leonard Barks Sr. was a member of the Basilica of St. Mary and the Barks family continues to provide the scholarship each year. To qualify for this award, Jonathan provided his report card, wrote an essay on Catholic Education and community service, explained his extracurricular and ministry activities, and obtained two references. Norfolk Mayor Kenneth Alexander served as the Keynote Speaker at the breakfast. He spoke about the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., peace, justice, non-violence, and his vision and dream for children in our country. The high point for Jonathan was when the Mayor referenced him by name during his speech!

Congratulations to Seventh Grader Jin Lee Beckner.  Jin Lee is the Wolfhound Spelling Bee Champ! Competition was fierce, with Emilia Murphy, also in seventh grade, coming in second place.  Jin will be our representative in the regional Virginian-Pilot Spelling Bee, which will be held on February 17 and broadcast live on TV on WHRO.  G-O-O-D   L-U-C-K   J-I-N   L-E-E!
