A Visit From a Member of the Class of 2014

On Monday, September 19, members of the Dermatology Department at EVMS held a presentation for
our Middle School students. The main speaker was second year medical student and Wolfhound
alumnus, Ryan Saal. He spoke about the importance of protecting one’s skin and how healthy choices at
a young age can prevent skin damage and skin disease in the future.

Ryan graduated from Saint Patrick Catholic School in 2014 and went on to Maury High School and the
Governor’s School for Arts for musical theater. After high school he attended Christopher Newport
University and majored in biochemistry. Upon graduating in 2021, Ryan matriculated to EVMS and is
interested in many specialties including dermatology and pathology.

We always love when our Wolfhound alumni visit Saint Patrick and couldn’t have been more excited to
have Ryan return to share his knowledge with our current Middle School students. Ryan answered a
number of questions about sun damage and skin cancer, but also fielded inquiries about his experience
at the Governor’s School. Ryan’s talent for theater was nurtured as a member of Saint Patrick’s theater
troupe and his love for science and medicine was discovered while in Dr. Strauss’ biology class. Ryan is a
great example of the benefits of total formative education and we couldn’t be more proud of him!

We encourage all of our graduates to stay in touch, visit often, and share their unique talents with our
current student body!
