Wolfhounds Called to Serve Kids in Louisiana
When students are moved by stories they have heard in the news, the faculty and staff at Saint Patrick Catholic School work to help them put their hearts into action. The guiding principles of intentional Total Formation are centered in service, so student-led service projects are an integral part of a Saint Patrick education.
This year, three Fourth Grade students in Mrs. Baumgartner’s class heard about the struggles of people affected by Hurricane Ida. Their initial ideas were centered around the collection of toiletries and clothing items, but when a connection was made with a Saint Patrick family contact in Louisiana, the students discovered they could help the children in a truly special way.
Due to the flooding that followed Hurricane Ida, parents had to throw away their children’s water damaged toys. The young Wolfhounds immediately switched their focus towards replacing these toys, books, games, and puzzles.
The Saint Patrick Catholic School community is currently collecting new and gently used toys, books, matchbox cars, board games, puzzles, card games, etc. for the children. The collection boxes are located throughout the school. We are collecting money to help purchase extra toys and offset the cost of shipping the donations at the end of this project.
