Harnessing the Power of the Sun

On Friday, January 26, Alumnus Sean Trudell (Class of 2020) spoke with Middle School students about his Eagle Scout Project: the installation of solar panels on the Hammond Outdoor Classroom. By providing power to this unique space on campus, Sean has given students the chance to explore the natural world in new ways and has allowed teachers to offer exciting, hands-on outdoor learning opportunities to students in PreK through Eighth Grade.

Sean detailed the challenges and painstaking work it took to bring this project to completion and admitted that he wanted to quit "many times". He said, however, that it was through a Growth Mindset - a skill he honed at Saint Patrick - that he found success in the end. He went on to explain the outdoor classroom's current capabilities and how his forward thinking has paved the way for additions in the future!
Sean will graduate from Norfolk Academy in June and is headed to the United States Naval Academy in the fall of 2024. He was grateful to come back and share why he is so passionate about giving back to the school he called home from PreK through Eighth Grade. Once a Wolfhound, Always a Wolfhound!
