A True Team Effort

The Physical Life at Saint Patrick Catholic School is about more than simply winning. We want all of our Wolfhounds to grow and excel on the court and on the field, but we believe character development, perseverance, and sportsmanship are just as important. On Sunday, January 7 the Eighth Grade Girls Basketball Team put these beliefs into action in support of The Basilica of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception.

Each year, The Basilica participates as part of the NEST Program (Norfolk Emergency Shelter Team) by providing food and shelter for unhoused Norfolk residents over a three-week period. Working in tandem with other local churches, St. Mary’s helps provide a warm and welcoming space during the cold winter months. In support of this effort, our Eighth Grade Girls Basketball team gathered at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and prepared chili, rice, and brownies for 65 unhoused Norfolk Residents. Once the food was ready, the delicious meals were transported to St. Mary’s to be enjoyed by their guests. The Physical Life and their love for basketball may have originally brought this group of Eighth Grade girls together, but through this act of kindness, these Wolfhounds have grown closer as a team and have nourished their Life of Spirit and Life of Vocation as well.
