Sweets for Sailors

Saint Patrick Catholic School educates and nurtures every child to become a compassionate and courageous servant leader and student-led service projects are a manifestation of that mission. Finding new ways to help others in need or to show our appreciation for those that lead by example has inspired young Wolfhounds throughout the school’s nineteen-year history.

Over the next ten days, fifth grade students Jane P. and Ava S. will be collecting treats for U.S. Navy service members deployed throughout the world. The project is called “Sweets for Sailors” and the goal is to bring a smile to the faces of these men and women that have sacrificed so much for our safety and freedom.

The Armed Forces are an important part of the Hampton Roads community. A large percentage of Saint Patrick students are members of a military-connected family and serve their country alongside their service member. We are proud and honored by our bond with United States military and our students love opportunities to show their appreciation for these special servant leaders.

Students are collecting non-perishable snacks and candy (no chocolate, please) as well as small games (i.e., playing cards, Sudoku, dominos, etc.). Collection will go through Friday, January 27th and donations can be dropped of in the boxes located in the front lobby, lower school hallway, and middle school hallway. The fifth grade girls are hoping to send these Sweets for Sailors, along with our thoughts and prayers, in time to reach them for Valentine’s Day!
