Blessing of the Animals

The 17th annual Blessing of the Animals was held on Wednesday, October 6, celebrating the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi (c. 1180 – 1226), patron saint of animals and the environment. While we moved location of this event this year from the Green to the back pad behind the School to allow for more physical distancing, we welcomed students, parents, and their pets in person this year – including dogs, cats, a rabbit, a chicken, a toad, and even a Leopard Gecko. Father Jim Curran, pastor of The Basilica of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception, blessed each and every one of our four-legged, fluffy, scaly, and stuffed friends of all shapes and sizes. For those students who were not able to bring their pet in person, Father Jim blessed the photos of pets as well as stuffed animals virtually during Mass.
