Seventh Grade Student Celebrated for Service

Congratulations to Seventh Grade student Jonathan L. At Mass on Sunday, February 7, at the Basilica of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception, he was presented with the 2020-2021 Leonard Barks Sr. Scholarship by the Knights of  Peter Claver. This prize is awarded to one student receiving a Catholic education at a minimum of $1000 for one year.

Leonard Barks Sr. was a member of the Basilica of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception and the Barks family continues to provide the scholarship each year. To qualify for this award, Jonathan provided his report card, wrote an essay on Catholic Education and community service, explained his extracurricular and ministry activities, and obtained two references.

Jonathan shared that Catholic education is important to him because he learns about God everyday and feels like he is in the presence of the Holy Spirit all the time. He believes that community service is important and that by serving God we are doing things in His image. We are so proud of this servant leader.
