Celebrating the Navy's Birthday

Saint Patrick celebrated the Navy’s 244th birthday in a special way. As students arrived on Friday, October 11, they were greeted by members of Helicopter Mine Countermeasures Squadron 15 from Naval Station Norfolk. "The Blackhawks" visited Saint Patrick as part of Fleet Week Hampton Roads community outreach. Fleet Week Hampton Roads, held in conjunction with the Navy’s birthday, celebrates and recognizes the sacrifices and contributions of Sailors, past and present, who are our neighbors, volunteers, and citizens, actively working each day to enhance the quality of life for Hampton Roads residents and its visitors.

These Sailors welcomed students at drop off, attended Middle School Assembly, and visited classrooms. They shared their squadron’s mission, their personal experiences, and answered great questions posed by our curious students. As is tradition at Saint Patrick, the students sang Happy Birthday to our visitors.

Over one third of Saint Patrick students have family members in the Armed Forces, and these Sailors were welcomed with open arms. Principal Steve Hammond spoke for the School when he said, “We deeply appreciate your presence here today. We want you to know that you are always welcome. You have a home here.” Check out pictures from the visit here.
