Music Program

The Saint Patrick Music Program is centered on a mission to foster an appreciation and love for music. The program expands students’ aural skills, music history, music theory, and eurhythmics. The program brings opportunities to all students to perform and grow as individuals and as part of an ensemble. The performance-driven curriculum highlights students as they nurture gifts, grow in confidence, and take risks.

Students perform on the stage in grade-level musicals where they collaborate with peers, experience the stage, and feel the joy of an audience. Participation in the annual Grandparent's Day performance and the Christmas program help expand students’ appreciation for music, provide choral production experiences, and form life-long memories for students and families.

Music for Grades K-6

Lower School music classes meet two times per six day cycle. In honoring the spirit of the child, K-6 music classes provide experiences of choral production and musical theatre where students gain confidence and develop musical understanding and a lifelong appreciation of music.
  • Vocal: Students sing a varied repertoire of music.
  • Music theory: Students learn to read rhythmic notation and staff notation.
  • Aural skills: Students expand their listening skills through melodic ear-training.
  • Music history: Students analyze, describe, and appreciate music performance.

Zero Bell Strings Lessons

Our zero bell instructors offer beginning to more advanced group lessons in strings. Lessons for ukulele, guitar, violin, viola, and cello are offered. Students perform in winter and spring concerts to highlight their talent and share their growth.

Music for Grades 7-8

  • Music history: Students learn about composers, famous compositions, musical instruments, and the symphony orchestra.
  • Eurhythmics: Students utilize the expression of physical movement and musical rhythms to reinforce the concepts which affect their performance and retention of musical basics.
  • Music theory: Student learn basic vocabulary, identify and definie standard notation symbols for pitch, rhythm, dynamics, tempo, articulation, and expression.
  • Aural skills: Students learn how to listen to music, identify musical instruments, identify musical forms, and discern the music of various cultures.
  • Classical fusion: Students examine how classical music has influenced many types of popular music today.

Private Music Lessons

Private piano lessons are offered after school through two instructors. Piano students perform in a spring concert to develop confidence in front of an audience and to share their gifts and growth.

Students who participate in zero-bell strings are eligible for private afternoon lessons.

Private lessons are scheduled and billed directly through instructors.
