Eight Saint Patrick Alumni to Graduate from Maury Medical and Health Specialties Program This Spring

Eight Saint Patrick alumni will graduate from the Maury Medical and Health Specialties Program this spring. All of these young men and women have been in the program since their freshman year. There are 33 students in the program.

In anticipation of graduation and their continued medical studies, the students took an oath, modeled after the Hippocratic Oath, during their White Shirt Ceremony held on December 18, 2015. They pledged to use their education in a positive way and to approach new people and situations with an unbiased outlook.

The Maury Medical and Health Specialties Program offers challenging science courses with an emphasis on medical applications. In addition to coursework, students gain experience in the medical field working with specialized equipment and collaborating with practicing professionals on research projects. Maury Medical has a formal partnership with Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS), which includes monthly guest speakers throughout the medical community in Hampton Roads.

The program requires 120 hours of community service, so that students develop, “a personal sense of responsibility to the community." Seven of our alums were acknowledged with “Above and Beyond" Awards for volunteering for more than 150 hours. One of our students volunteered for an astonishing 370 hours—three times the requirement. We are so proud of these students’ continued demonstration of the Life of Vocation and Life of Mind. We can’t wait to see what they accomplish in college and beyond!
