Prayer & Worship

Teaching a child the universal practice of prayer is one of the most important gifts parents and teachers can provide the youth in their care. Why? Because relationships cannot grow and develop without communication, and prayer is the manner in which we communicate with God.

Learning to communicate with our Creator in personal, quiet moments, as well as during challenging times, can help children to bring a peace and humility into their lives on their own. Prayer helps develop a lifelong relationship with God built on trust, awe, faith, and love. Worship is also experienced in communal prayer whereby students experience the power of a community in solidarity through faith.

Within the cycle of the liturgical year, teachers guide students in prayer forms that teach about the life of Christ and provide students special insight into their own spiritual growth. Children pray every day at school in a variety of ways. Our intentional inclusion of prayer as part of school life at Saint Patrick is accomplished by:
  • Encouraging spiritual time through personal prayer, community prayer, and reflective writing in journals.
  • Empowering students to lead portions of prayer time on a rotating basis.
  • Providing daily gathering times for students to assemble as one body for prayer.
  • Learning time-honored, traditional prayers.
  • Developing individual, creative, and personal conversations with God.
  • Collaborating with parents to encourage a lasting prayer life within children.
  • Developing an awareness and appropriate respect for the beliefs and prayers of other religions.
  • Providing weekly liturgical services of chapel or Mass where the community gathers, prays, and worships together.
It is our hope that these experiences deepen the awareness of our Creator in our students' lives.
