Making History

Saint Patrick students had a very impressive showing at the Regional History Day Competition this past Saturday at Virginia Wesleyan. Competing in District 6, which includes schools across Southeastern Virginia, our Seventh and Eighth Grade competitors placed first in five out nine categories! The top two entries in each category and age division from the regional competition qualify for the Virginia History Day Competition to be held on April 21 at the Virginia Museum of History and Culture.

This year’s theme was “Conflict and Compromise in History.” Preparation for History Day began way back in September from exploring topic ideas to researching primary sources, to taking notes and writing annotated bibliographies. Students were encouraged to examine their topic’s influence on history and draw conclusions about the ways in which their topic had an impact on the course of events and on individuals, communities, nations, or the world.

Students who have qualified for the state competition are listed below along with their project titles. Our students put much time and energy into their projects and we are excited as they move on to the next level of competition. They will compete against students from seven other districts from across the state. Go Wolfhounds!
