Father Jim Curran Honored for His Servant Leadership

Saint Patrick Chaplain, Father Jim Curran, was honored in January by the Urban League of Hampton Roads. Presented with the Community Leaders’ Award, Father Jim was among six people to receive this recognition for carrying on the work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through community service. Father Jim, as he is known at Saint Patrick, leads the parish of the Basilica of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception in Norfolk, the only African American basilica in the nation. This Basilica serves a hot meal to 300 people per day four days a week, its food pantry serves 500 households a week, and the ministry helps residents in the immediate vicinity when in financial crisis. Father Jim works tirelessly for social justice and is an inspiration to his parishioners, our school community, and beyond. This is a well-deserved award for a true servant leader.
