Celebrating Black History Month

It was a privilege and an honor to have Mr. Erik Labat back to Saint Patrick as our Assembly speaker last Friday. Addressing fourth through eighth grade students, Mr. Labat delivered a portion of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr’s “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop” speech in the same cadence and expression of Dr. King’s original and final speech. He spoke of the importance of its message to Americans today – its message of courage, dignity, and mankind’s relentless quest for freedom.

Students, faculty, and staff were very moved by his powerful performance. "It gave me goose bumps," remarked a seventh grade student. This was a truly remarkable learning moment for our students and we thank Mr. Labat for sharing this important speech in such a meaningful way.
