Saint Patrick Students Shine When It Comes to Service

Projects Raise Over $4200 for Local Charities and Disaster Relief
Servant Leadership is a core value of Saint Patrick Catholic School, and our students take this to heart. Over the past three months our students have led a number of impressive service projects to benefit local charities, disaster relief, as well as deployed troops and first responders.

Dollars for Diapers
Fourth grader Andrew Domingos wanted to help after the flooding in Houston from Hurricane Harvey. He heard that there was a need for basic supplies like diapers and decided to turn this into a service project for school. Over a two week period Andrew raised $180.00 and donated this money to the Dollars for Diapers program since diapers were not donated by relief agencies to flood victims.

Soccer 4 Smiles – Operation Smile
The Saint Patrick Catholic School Operation Smile Club hosted their second annual Soccer 4 Smiles event to raise money for kids suffering from cleft lip and/or cleft palate. Students from third through eighth grade, along with a number of faculty and parents, came out for an afternoon of friendly completion for a great cause. Many alumni returned to serve as coaches and referees. The club raised over $1400 from concessions, sponsors, donations, and player entries. This amount will cover six life-saving, reconstructive surgeries. Six children will have their lives transformed because of the efforts of the Operation Smile Club and supporters.

Operation Gratitude - Candy for Deployed Troops and First Responders
Operation Gratitude was a huge success!  Our very generous students donated 200 pounds of their own Halloween candy for this service project. The candy will be boxed and shipped to the Operation Gratitude headquarters in California. From there it will be distributed to our deployed military and first responders. They will no doubt be very grateful. We are very appreciative to a Wolfhound grandparent who offered to cover the cost of shipping the candy to California!

Harvest Market
The fourth annual Harvest Market was held on Saturday, November 4. Students, parents, faculty, staff, and friends of the school all played a role in this event. Twenty-seven vendors purchased parking spots from which they sold a variety of goods including clothing items, photography, crafty items, plants, jewelry, and even homemade slime. It was a beautiful fall morning for the community to gather with friends and family while shopping, sipping cocoa and cider, and even riding ponies. This event raised $1634. The Celtic Council also donated $200 from the Middle School dance for a total of $1834 to the Saint Patrick Catholic School Scholarship Fund.

The Mac and Cheese Bake-Off, sponsored by Kiara Best’s advisory, was held again this year during the annual Harvest Market and brought in $500 for ForKids. The winning mac and cheese was created by sixth grader Nora Schuurman. Second place went to seventh grader Noelle Searing and Moira Rouleau from fourth grade, took third place. Thanks to all who contributed and participated!

Mr. Chagnon’s Advisory sold twenty Thanksgiving pies at the Harvest Festival bringing in $300. The proceeds for the pies sales will benefit the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters. Apple pie outsold pumpkin two to one.

Eastern Shore Migrant Workers
And, of course, we would like to recognize our eighth grade class for collecting backpacks, school supplies, clothing, and toiletries to donate to the migrant workers on the Eastern Shore. These items were distributed during their recent retreat and the migrant worker families were so appreciative.

We are so proud of our Wolfhound service projects and thankful for everyone that participated. We wish our Wolfhound families a safe and happy Thanksgiving holiday.
