Kicking Off Catholic Schools Week With the Chris Kypros Concert
Saint Patrick has traditionally kicked off Catholic Schools Week with a piano concert by Music Director, Christopher Kypros, but this year was a little different. Inclement weather forced us to postpone the event, but Mr. Kypros’ concert this past Saturday proves that good things come to those who wait. Mr. Kypros is a Julliard-trained concert pianist and has served as both a teacher and Music Director at Saint Patrick Catholic School since its inception. He continues to amaze the Saint Patrick community with his talent, sharing his love and knowledge of music with all of our Wolfhound students. While Mr. Kypros remains busy with daily classes, coordinating the Grandparents Day musical celebration in November, and inspiring students to give their best at their respective grade level performances in the spring, he still finds the time to memorize and perfect the material for his annual concert.
This year, Mr. Kypros matched the beautiful words of Bengali poet, writer, playwright, composer, philosopher, social performer, and painter Rabindranath Tagore with the Romantic-period music of virtuoso (and poet of the piano) Frederic Chopin. Before each piano piece, Mr. Kypros read a poem by Tagore that matched the emotion and feel of the song. He is always looking for new ways to help the audience find deeper meaning within the music. To close out the program, Principal, Steve Hammond spoke of the importance of the Arts in education, that regardless of the medium, “Art speaks in this great metaphor that never keeps from giving…it has to give.” We want to thank Mr. Kypros for sharing his special gift with all of us and for inspiring all of us to live out our best creative lives.
