Even the Smallest Wolfhounds Can Make a Big Difference
Servant leadership starts early at Saint Patrick. Mrs. Powers PreK class just completed a three-week service project collecting canned goods to help feed the hungry in our community. All of the students in Mrs. Power’s class were encouraged to bring in a can, but two students, John K. and his buddy Lane H., took this one step further. Inspired by their CHKD Build-A-Bear activity in December, the two boys decided to make different “stuffies” to “sell” for two donated cans of food. John and Lane’s excitement for the activity was contagious and inspired the whole class to participate.
Each day they had requests for specific stuffies from lower school peers, including an elephant, a wolfhound, and even a Pez dispenser, so they created a catalog of “stuffies” they could make. The boys even made a storefront out of cardboard boxes. They were greatly supported by many of the 4th grade students in Mrs. Baumgartner’s class and at the end of the three weeks they had collected 82 cans! Just goes to show that even the smallest Wolfhounds can make a big difference!
