Saint Patrick Catholic School middle school students have the opportunity to participate in a Wednesday afternoon program utilizing a hands-on approach to learn how to build and program robots.
Using LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 equipment and 3-D design, students learn how to develop, build, and program simple robots. The students work with the nationally recognized LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 approach to introduce them to the history of robots and the principles of how to design and build robots to complete simple tasks. Additionally, students are working on FIRST LEGO League competition activities. The FIRST LEGO League immerses students in real-world science and technology challenges.
The instruction is co-directed by Kenneth George Skena, MD, PhD, a retired surgeon and robotics engineer who currently serves as a medical and industrial robotic consultant, and Mr. P.J. Trudell, a professional engineer with a master’s degree in mechanical engineering. Mr. Trudell is a pilot, Saint Patrick parent, and robotics enthusiast. Mr. Neil Quesnel assists the robotics program as well.
