Million Pennies Project for Haiti off to an amazing start – 104,224 pennies collected

Our school-wide Million Pennies Project to benefit Maison Fortune School & Orphanage and the Saint Gabriel Parish School in Haiti has generated a lot excitement among our students. Our community has been challenged to raise one million pennies in 18 months’ time and we are off to a strong start. The tally as of Mar 19 was 104, 224 pennies!

Our 5th graders, with the help of Tim Smith, our Director of Facilities, designed a container that would be able to hold a million pennies. A talented parent, Stewart McLinda, volunteered to build the container.

The first pennies went into the newly built container on Mar 19 by our middle school students.

There was a lot of excitement as classes watched their first pennies dumped into the container.

Thousands of pennies are heavy. Some students used bags to transport the money to the container.
