Kids Vote for these winners!
Virginia Young Readers Award Winning Contest sponsored by the Virginia Education Media Association, the Virginia Library Association, and the Library of Virginia Youth Services
The students will be given opportunities to read, share, and interact with books that have been nominated for a state award throughout the months preceding March. In late February the students will vote on their personal favorite among the choices in their grade level. The school wide winning titles will be sent to the city-wide representative for tally in order to determine the state winner.
This award is based on popularity of the school children in the state of Virginia. The students will be provided with a list of the grade appropriate titles in various formats from now until voting day. They will be encouraged to check them out from the media center. Many activities and read alouds will be provided.
The Library Media Center will sponsor a ballot voting process that will mimic the election process and the winning titles will be announced and promoted.
For the list of nominated books for the current year and archival information about past nominees and winners please visit the Virginia State Reading Association.
Visit your local Public Library with your list and check out available titles to share at home.
