Try these Power Search tips on this or any other media catalog, search engines, and resource databases.

Separate a string of keywords with AND (to narrow the search), OR (to broaden the search), or NOT (to exclude likely but unnecessary terms).

Ask your Library Media Specialist how to truncate terms and add proximity searching to your strategy. Some databases will allow you to define your search in many ways. Just inquire!

How to search:

Title
Type the full title of the book. The catalog will return any selection matching that specific title.

Author
Type the last name of the author of the book. The catalog will return all materials written by all authors with that specific last name.

Subject
Type a word telling the subject of the book. The catalog will return a list of appropriate ‘Library of Congress’ subject headings. Select the heading that is desired and the catalog will return a list of all materials with that subject heading in the record of the book.

Series
Type the series name of the collection of books. The catalog will return a list of all titles held in the series.

Keyword
Type a single word that describes the main idea for the book . The catalog will return all titles of materials with the keyword in the record from the title, subtitle, author’s name, subject headings, notes, and summary.

Library Policies

  • All Students, Parents, and Staff of the St. Patrick community are invited to check out books for a two week limit.
  • No book check out is allowed with an overdue book.
