Julie KeeslingLatin Teacher and Technology Team CoordinatorMrs. Keesling majored in Classics, studied Italian in graduate school, and eventually found a career in the U. S. Navy managing information systems. As her assignment officer once remarked, "Latin...Greek...FORTRAN...COBOL... all the same." Her career is a witness to the benefits of a liberal arts education. Why Latin? "There can be no doubt as to the formative and educational value either of the language of the Romans or of great literature generally. It is a most effective training for the pliant minds of youth. It exercises, matures, and perfects the principal faculties of mind and spirit. It sharpens the wits and gives keenness of judgment. It helps the young mind to grasp things accurately and develop a true sense of values. It is also a means for teaching highly intelligent thought and speech." ~ Pope John XXIII February 22, 1962 Mrs. Keesling comes to Saint Patrick Catholic School from a neighboring school district where she managed the technology infrastructure. She promoted the integration of technology in support of classroom teaching and administration. Mrs. Keesling has a Bachelor of Arts from the College of Saint Catherine in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and a Master of Arts in Italian Language and Literature from the University of Colorado at Boulder. She also has a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island. She is a member of the American Classical League. Mrs. Keesling studied at the University of Pisa, Italy, as a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar and is an active member of the Rotary Club of Norfolk. |
