Jeanette “Jan” White

Director of Studies

Jan brings a wealth of experience to Saint Patrick, having dedicated 20 years to the Norfolk Public School System. Most recently, Jan has served as assistant principal of Bay View Elementary School where she worked jointly with the principal in planning, implementing and evaluating the school's instructional programs for approximately 700 elementary students. She collaborated with the school counselor and members of the Student Support Services Team to provide needed services for students with special learning needs. Jan took great pleasure in advising service-oriented students in the Student Council Association and working with the Bay View Morning News Team.

Prior to this position, Jan served as director of the Human Relations and Staff Development Department where she supported effective instruction, supervision, and school management through organized professional development opportunities. Additionally, as interim coordinator and teacher specialist of the Department of Instruction's Mathematics Office, she assisted teachers at all grade levels to improve mathematics instruction. During her tenure in the mathematics office, she served as adjunct professor with Old Dominion University to provide a graduate course on alternative instructional strategies for pre-algebra and algebra. Jan began her career in education as an elementary school teacher in self-contained, team, and open classroom settings. She was a member of the Danforth Fellow Vertical Team, 1989-1991.

Jan is a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the Norfolk and Virginia State Reading Association, and the Center for Creative Leadership. She also served as co-chair of the Southern Regional Subcommittee for the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and regional lead teacher representative of the Virginia Council of Teacher of Mathematics.

Jan received her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Elementary Education, with an emphasis in Curriculum and Instruction from Old Dominion University. She was awarded an Educational Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership and Higher Education from Old Dominion.
