Movie Fridays/ Rainy Days
While we try not to make it a daily practice, it is fun to relax on special occasions and watch a film. We generally watch movies on Fridays to welcome in the weekend and on celebration days where the movie usually displays a theme. Because we know that every child doesn’t share the same maturity level and that parents differ on what they view as appropriate, we have compiled a list of all the movies that we could show. Please review them and if there are any that you wish to see removed, please let us know and it will not be shown.
Behavior Problems
Because the children have been in classrooms all day long, naturally a little bit of release from the day is to be expected. At After Care, we believe in positive discipline and choice theory as the school does. However, when a child’s behavior becomes violent, disrespectful, or inappropriate, it must be addressed. These are the steps we will follow:
First, we will speak to child about their behavior. We will discuss the reasons why they acted in the inappropriate manner. Then the child will formulate his or her own success plan.
If the behavior continues, we will give the child a reflection sheet that they must fill out and sit quietly for a designated period of time.
If the problem becomes unmanageable, the student will speak to the principal of the school with their parents.
If no resolution can be reached, the child will be expelled from the program for a period of time and their return will be on a probationary basis.
Emergency Medical Care
If a child needs emergency attention during After Care, the parents will be notified immediately and an ambulance will be called. If the situation is not an emergency, the parents will be notified and the child’s physician will be called.
Uniforms
Because of the activities we engage in during After Care, school uniforms aren’t always the most appropriate attire. We want to preserve your uniforms as long as possible so we thought that an After Care uniform would be the best option. All children are required to wear a wolfhound t-shirt. The children can wear any bottom they wish such jeans, shorts, or sweat pants. The only other requirement is tennis shoes. This is very important since we do play in the gym some days and we cannot allow dress shoes on the gym floor.
Pick Up
We are instituting a different system this year. All parents must pick up their child or children in the front lobby. An After Care employee will be there to assist you and radio your child or children. This is to minimize the confusion when there are busy periods during the day. It is still necessary to initial and write down time of departure. We hope this system will prove to be more effective and efficient.
Mandatory Homework Time
All children will be given the opportunity to have homework time during 4:30-5:00. If the children have no homework, they can read, study, or work on age appropriate worksheets provided during this time. Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten will have a story read to them at this time. If any child requires more time to finish their homework, then an A.C.E. employee will stay until they are finished. If you wish that your child be exempt from this time, please contact us. If you would like your child to participate in this time, please make sure that you do not pick up your child until after 5:00 p.m.
